Voting Time! [07 May 2005|03:08pm]

[ mood | thirsty ]

Attempting to redeem my lack of participation due to RL exploding.

Issues we must vote upon:

1.  Military funding. Who to give the valuable SOX to? The army? The navy? The air force? A Star Wars inspired military program? Or should we have a nationwide draft? Or, should we let the military gather SOX themselves and spend our government riches on other things?

2. Child labour. Get rid of it, keep it how it is, or subsidize it?

3. Depression and suicide rates are up, especially among youths. Should we start a government funded program to increase support, awareness, and understanding? Or perhaps just ignore depression and let the suicide continue on? Another choice is to give money to improve counseling in schools only.

4. Skateboarding. Should it be outlawed completely? Should we spend some money to build a skatepark and enforce safety equiptment (the main concern is safety)? Or we can make skateboarding the only way to get around, outlawing other forms of transportation.

5. It seems we have pushed big business a bit too far. Companies are heading away at an alarming rate. Should we stop them by taking away regulations and rules, or should we sit back and relax while breathing in the smog-free air?

Now, VOTE, damn it.

Just posting to inform you all that if you don't get your butts over here and vote, Pepperland, Green Sweater, SDB, JK (?) and I will be the only ones to have any input in these decisions.

New issues [22 Apr 2005|05:48pm]

It seems we have a few issues to vote on, so please go over to the site and read the facts, then VOTE!

The issues are:

Unions for the Wealthy

Power Problems

Representation of Minorities in Soap Operas

We also still haven't decided on the Cash for Colons, and Auto Industry issues.

Also wanted to point out, that our economy is very weak and we should probably take that into consideration when voting.

A Slight Change of Topic [03 Apr 2005|11:03pm]

You may have noticed me around, voting and such^^ I have come to take the advice of another member who is a good friend of mine and make an actual post here. I come bearing revolutionary ideas.

Manhattachester is a brilliant start, but what about the rest of New York City? There are areas of the Bronx, Queens, and Brooklyn that are perfectly inline with what he hope to accomplish in creating this glorious state. That leaves Staten Island. If you want a red state for Manhattachester we can add them too ^_~ But seriously, the rest of this city deserves to be its own country as well. They could benefit greatly from our social welfare and public nudity.

I say let them in, even if it somehow violates the spirit of the name^^;;; As a native New Yorker I must demand sovereignty for us all under the new Liberal Leftist republic. New York City as a whole suffers from being wed to the state and the nation as a whole, save all of them, not just Manhattan (awesome though it may be).

Now that this bit of unorthodoxy is over I am prepared to mediate the gigantic debate that will surely follow the pleas of this young upstart. ^^

OMB, go look at our issues! There's one I know we'll vote unanimously on. Go see which one. Now. And for Bob's sake, VOTE, on the rest as well.

-Pepperland, VP

PS: See Echo's post, it's an important issue.

Our new nationstates issues [30 Mar 2005|11:48am]

So have we voted yet on education? I think education is the cornerstone to any society, so I'm all for option #1

Then we've got the issue of payment for organ donation. This could get tricky because people might put their own health at risk for a little cash... I think the system of voluntary organ and blood donation should be encouraged - school and office sponsored blood drives, encouragement to sign up as an organ donor when you get your liscence, I think we need to encourage people to help others without offering payment, so I'm for option #2

And it appears the auto-industry issue is still unaddressed. We cannot abolish minimum wage. I think option #3 - to let the industry go - is sound provided we create more jobs in another industry.

Government stuff [28 Mar 2005|10:09pm]

[ mood | Vice-Presidential ]

I've put through our decisions for compulsory voting (yes), euthanasia (yes), child gambling (no), nudism (yes), as they've been voted on by the majority.

I've also added our nation to the NationStates region, described as: Pro-Economy, Pro-Society, Pro-UN, Pro-Peace; Join our glory! Above all, freedom for all nations to control their own destinies in a region free from war.

We have one outstanding issue pending (we get one every day) and we still have to vote on whether to join the UN - they seem very liberal and decent, you can see their past resolutions. I suggest you check it out, as well as the automobile issue, and VOTE.

EDIT: We have a new telegram. It looks weird.

Quick Update [25 Mar 2005|03:22pm]

[ mood | political ]

Hey all, your President here.

I've been CHEXing up on our loverly nation, and I've discovered a few things...

We've got a new issue: Cheap, foreign-made cars are becoming increasingly popular, causing concern in TSSDLELSM's automobile manufacturing industry. Should we apply terriffs? Abolish minimum wage? Let the industry go in favour of others? What? Go to our site and read all sides of the issue and VOTE here.

Also, something highly amusing: As of now, TSSDLELSM is ranked 1887th in the region and 43,908th in the world for Nudest. Heeeee...

Can someone tell me where it says we have compulsory military service? Because I can't find it, and we really must get rid of that. Merci!

New Issues [24 Mar 2005|07:43pm]

[ mood | Political ]

We have five votes for compulsory voting and one for non-compuslory. We need one more vote, people.

New Issues:

Legalizing Euthanasia

Relaxing Public Nudity Laws
(I'll bet dancing_kumquat has got something to say about this. XD)

Child Gambling

Also, should we apply to join the UN? (Vote on this too.)

Look at the issues in our account to see both sides of each argument, if you wish, and please VOTE on all of them.

*parade* [21 Mar 2005|05:57pm]

Today is an important day. In fact, so important you should take your diary and write MANHATTACHESTER all over your appointments.
Today your Vice President and Debater at Large got sick of the endless voting and made Manhattachester join NationStates.

Here is our Bio (which is written automatically by the NationStates game). The

Community of TSSDLELSM
"I'd liek toc hange teh system"

UN Category: Democratic Socialists
Civil Rights: Excellent
Economy: Developing
Political Freedoms: Good

Location: The East Pacific
The Community of TSSDLELSM is a tiny, environmentally stunning nation, renowned for its complete lack of prisons. Its compassionate population of 5 million are fiercely patriotic and enjoy great social equality; they tend to view other, more capitalist countries as somewhat immoral and corrupt.

The enormous government devotes most of its attentions to Social Welfare, with areas such as Law & Order and Religion & Spirituality receiving almost no funds by comparison. The average income tax rate is 32%, but much higher for the wealthy. A substantial private sector is led by the Pizza Delivery industry, followed by Automobile Manufacturing and Gambling.

Crime -- especially youth-related -- is relatively low. TSSDLELSM's national animal is the badger, which frolics freely in the nation's many lush forests, and its currency is the sox.

A very special locked post will be posted right after this one. In the mean time: PARTY!

Alrighty. It is 9.25 AM (which is, by the way, disgustingly early for a Sunday morning) and I am NOT HAPPY.

I can't sign us up without one, you know!

Now, if you'll excuse me, the Chief Debater has some Queer as Folk shower scenes to see.

All right, so I've got six people plus me who've filled in the NationStates thingy. Technically, this is a majority, so I could fill it in. But as we're a democracy (and very nice to our Coungresspeople) I'm reminding the remaining people! I'm filling it in when we've got a name, and if you don't agree with the temporary results please say so as quickly as possible.

And we need name ideas, Manhattachesterians! We've only got a limited space, so ideas are only useful if they've got less than 22 letters, spaces of numbers.

Temporary results - please read!Collapse )
